Harry Dunn said something similar at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding this week. He acknowledged that a lot of people are struggling now. He urged us all to pick one issue we're passionate about and one thing we can do to help, just with that issue.
I love this, Laura, and have subscribed to this idea after major burnout years ago from trying to spread across too many issues. It made such a difference.
I appreciate what you have said here. You have given me words that I can use when I talk to people who give reasons not to be involved. Focusing local is critical to building trust - something that has been lost given the torrent of lies exuding from the not to be trusted “leaders”.
This is so practical and helpful! Fantastic! Breaking down bite size action steps is exactly what I needed. You are just the very best and I adore you!!
Based on the writing you have done Nicole, I would really like to have a conversation with you about the current state of our world. I really enjoy reading your content!
I just attended a 2 day event on TRUST sponsored by the Lyceum society in Des Moines. Fascating speakers & brilliant discussion. Topics ranged from trusting the press, politicians, medicine, religion and AI. Lots to unpack in a civil environment.
Thank you for the push to do something practical and local in these times. I live in Canada, so my actions are a bit different, but I build community among my neighbours, and support a refugee family. I also buy Canadian to protest the tariffs, and together with my son, decided not to go across the border to participate in RAGBRAI this year.
Good article. But, NPR, ABC and BBC Global news? You really should try to broaden your range of news sources. One side of any story leaves you lacking in real understanding.

I love to hear it. I’ve felt a bit lately like I’m short-circuiting. I need small, manageable steps.

So glad it resonated, Denise! Thanks for reading.

Bite-sized is all I can handle right now, too.

I would love that! Conversation is good for the soul.

That sounds amazing! Sad I missed it.

We appreciate your support. Grateful for our Canadian neighbours and friends!
